Gathering Autumn
The last red leaf falls from the maple, its trajectory unimpeded on a windless evening. Rocking down to the ground, I see its spirit sail into winter, leaving the bare branches in nakedness of death. The leaf, motionless, a lost soul, will soon decompose to feed next spring in regeneration.
